Iran's average gasoline consumption stood at 80.2 million liters per day in the week ending August 30, the Mehr News Agency reported.

The amount shows a 5 percent increase compared to the preceding week.

August 29, with 84 million liters recorded the highest rate of gasoline consumption in summer.

Iran's gasoline consumption in the fifth calendar month of the current year (July 22 - August 21) stood at 2.128 billion liters.

The country's average gasoline consumption was 68.648 million liters in the mentioned month, a little less than the preceding month's figure of 68.865 million liters, the Tasnim News Agency reported.

August 8, with 84 million liters, and August 2 with 51.7 million liters held the record for highest and lowest rates of gasoline consumption that month.

Iran's average gasoline consumption stood at around 71.6 million liters per day in the previous Iranian calendar year, the ISNA News Agency reported.

According to the Deputy Oil Minister Alireza Zeyqami, Iran's average gasoline consumption stands at around 63.5 million liters per day.

Kashkouli had also said last month that not implementing the second phase of the subsidy reform plan would raise Iran's gasoline consumption to 70 million liters per day, which is 8 per cent more than the current figure.

Implementing the second phase of reform plan would also prevent the country's gas oil consumption from rising by 7 million liters per day, the IRNA News Agency quoted Kashkouli as saying.

Zeyqami said last month that the country will stop producing gasoline in petrochemical complexes by the end of the summer.

Once the gasoline production units of Lavan, Abadan, and Tabriz refineries come on stream, the country's gasoline production capacity would surpass Iran's consumption rate so we can stop production gasoline in the petrochemical complexes, the ISNA News Agency quoted him as saying.

Zeyqami went on to note that Iran's production capacity currently stands at 61 million tons per day.

Currently, 22 million liters of gasoline conforming to euro 4 and euro 5 standards is being produced in the country, he said.

Zeyqami expressed hope that Tehran's total gasoline production capacity would reach 70 million liters per day by the end of the current Iranian calendar year (March 20, 2014).
