Extremists having access to chemical weapons would be the most dangerous situation for the future of the region, Iran's president Hassan Rouhani said, IRNA reported.

Rouhani made the remarks at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Kyrgyzstan today.

"Iran, as the biggest victim of chemical weapon stands for destroying of all chemical weapons in the world," Rouhani said, referring to the 1980's Iran-Iraq war, during which Iraq used chemical weapons against Iran.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation or SCO is a Eurasian political, economic and military organization which was founded in 2001 in Shanghai by the leaders of China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.

Iran, along with India, Pakistan and Mongolia has the "observer" status in the organization.

Rouhani condemned the possible military attack on Syria, adding that problem in Syria should be solved by peaceful ways.

Rouhani started his official visit to Bishkek yesterday, to participate in the summit of Shanghai Cooperation Organization today. This visit is his first foreign visit since taking office on August 4.
