Iran launches another combined cycle power plant unit

The fifth unit of Khorramshahr combined cycle power plant (located in southern province of Khuzestan) has officially came on stream.

By inauguration of the fifth unit of the project, the facility's electricity output capacity was increased by 132 megawatts, reaching 810 megawatts, Iran's Tasnim News Agency reported on May 25.

The fourth unit of the facility came on stream in September 2013.

Once the second phase of the project comes on stream, the facility's output capacity will reach 972 megawatts.

Iran daily exports some 200 megawatt hours of the facility's produced electricity to Iraq.

Currently 116 units of combined cycle power plant are active in Iran. The units' actual electricity generation capacity stands at above 14,000 MW. According to the energy ministry's annual report, the Actual capacity of Iran's power plants is currently a little over 62,000 MW.
