Iran's security forces killed five armed thieves during a clash near Salas-e Babajani district of Iran's western Kermanshah Province.

The Commander of Security Affairs of Kermanshah Governor's Office Shahriar Heydari said the incident took place after the unidentified gunmen killed a worker during an armed robbery attack on an asphalt plant and escaped towards the nearby mountains, Iran's Fars news agency reported on July 17.

The security forces followed and surrounded the gunmen and killed five of them during the operation, he added.

Heydari went on to add that the armed group was responsible for some armed robbery attacks against plants and facilities in the region.

It should be noted that on June 25 unknown men killed three members of the police in Salas-e Babajani, who might have been members of the same group.

Salas-e Babajani is located in northwest of Kermanshah province.
