An official with Tehran’s international exhibition complex of Shahr-e-Aftab has said that the plans are underway to turn the expo center into a free trade zone.

“We plan to turn Shahr-e Aftab and surrounding area into a free trade zone,” Mohammadrauf Qaderi, the head of the international exhibition complex told Trend.

“In the new municipal policy of Tehran, two new issues have been considered. Firstly, a policy to convert Shahr-e Aftab and its surroundings into a free trade and economic zone for which we have proposed and we intend to do it in order to have a free economic zone in Tehran. Secondly, we plan to turn Shahr-e Aftab into an exhibition city of Tehran and Iran,” he added.

“We want this collection not to be merely a collection of exhibitions, but it would also be possible to have a place for family-friendly recreations and other services, such as hotel and etc, so that every foreigner or Iranian national can receive all their needs inside the complex without having to leave the area,” the official said.

Saying that the plan is on the municipality agenda which will be submitted to the Islamic City Council of Tehran, he estimated that plan would have a positive impact on the economy.

Over the past two months, we have been negotiating with about 12 foreign companies, from the Europe and East Asia, to hold their exhibitions in the complex and even to take part with Iran and invest in the field of finance, Mohammadrauf Qaderi added.

Saying that agreements have been made to hold five major exhibitions in the Shahr-e Aftab, he added that Stuttgart exhibition has plans to organize two major events in Iran over the current and coming years.

“This will be an exhibition of machine tools and equipment which will be held for the first time in the Middle East and Tehran will host it.”
