Iran, Venezuela seek to strengthen strategic relations

TEHRAN, Iran, Sept. 6

Trend:

Venezuela's foreign minister Felix Plasencia said his country is strengthening efforts for 'strategic alliance' of cooperation with Iran regarding air connections, trade, technology, etc., Trend reports via IRNA.

Plasencia made the remarks during a phone talk with his Iranian counterpart, Hosein Amir Abdolahian.

Abdolahian in turn proposed sending a delegation from the Iranian government to Venezuela with the intention of managing a 'road map' for bilateral cooperation over the next four years, whose potential agreements could be signed later in Iran.

Plasencia reaffirmed its commitment to a successful bilateral trade, in line with the order of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.

Iran is one of the main allies of Nicolás Maduro's government and their ties became even closer in 2020, when Venezuela faced a severe gasoline shortage and the Venezuelan government turned to Iran to buy fuel.
