BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 15. Within the framework of the agreement reached between the Iranian Ministry of Energy and the National Development Fund, $12.5 billion will be allocated for the country's power industry, Iranian Energy Minister Ali Akbar Mehrabian said, Trend reports.
According to him, $5 billion of the mentioned funds will be used for the construction of renewable power plants and $7.5 billion for the construction of thermal power plants.
The Iranian minister noted that with the expenditure of these funds, it is predicted that the country's electricity deficit will be reduced to a minimum.
Mehrabian added that Iran's Energy Ministry has a new plan to install solar panels on water wells in Iran's agricultural sector. This will reduce electricity consumption in the agricultural sector. The Energy Ministry stated that solar panels installed on water wells should be connected to the country's power grid.
Moreover, the energy potential of all power plants in Iran (thermal, water, renewable, nuclear, etc.) is more than 93,000 megawatt-hours. Of this, 82 percent is accounted for by thermal power plants.
To note, Iran experiences a shortage of electricity during the summer months. At this time, Iran has to import electricity from neighboring countries.
