BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 8. Iran's Caspian Sea fisheries in the period from October 17, 2023, through April 20, 2024, increased by 13.7 percent compared to the previous period (from October 17, 2022, through April 21, 2023), an official of Iran's fisheries organization Abbas Pour Naderi said, Trend reports.
According to him, the fish catch in Iran's Caspian Sea amounted to 36,971 tons during the mentioned period. Iran caught 32,514 tons in the Caspian Sea during the previous period.
Abbas Pour Naderi noted that the fish caught were sprat, bonefish, and sturgeon. Thus, 20,806 tons of sprat, 16,151 tons of bony fish, and 14 tons of sturgeon were caught.
The official stated that 11,673 tons of fish were caught in the Gilan province of the Caspian Sea, 24,017 tons in Mazandaran province, and 1,281 tons in Golestan Province.
To note, the bony fish of the Caspian Sea of Iran is caught in the waters of Mazandaran, Gilan, and Golestan provinces.
Across the country, 347 cooperatives are currently involved in fishing. There are 136,000 fishermen in the country. North of the country, in the Caspian Sea, 9,500 are fishing, while south of the country, in the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman, 126,500 are fishing.
