BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 12. In the near future, the 13 Alpha platform will be launched as the first stage in the South Pars (North Dome in Qatar) gas field, Iran's joint gas field with Qatar, Iranian Oil Minister Javad Owji told reporters after a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers in Tehran on June 12, Trend reports.
According to him, with the commissioning of this platform, the potential of gas production from the field will increase by 5–6 million cubic meters per day. Moreover, soon, with the full commissioning of the platform, the gas production potential will increase to 21–22 million cubic meters.
The Iranian minister further said that the platform was not used under the previous administration (2017–2021) since it was badly damaged when a Bahraini merchant ship struck it.
To note, the South Pars gas field (North Dome in Qatar) is a joint Iran-Qatar gas field. It is reported that this field has 51 trillion cubic meters of gas reserves, of which 36 trillion cubic meters can be produced. Iran's share in this field is 14 trillion cubic meters of gas and 18 billion barrels of gas condensate.
Iran has 28 phases in the South Pars gas field. Iran started production in this field in 2002. It is reported that Iran is currently producing 700 million cubic meters of gas from these phases daily. It is estimated that Iran has spent an estimated $90 billion on the field. It is noted that about 33 percent of the gas that can be produced from the gas field belongs to Iran. On the Iranian side of the field, the phases have been developed by Iran, while on the Qatari side, the phases have been developed mainly by foreign companies.
