Iran's production of crude steel and steel products rises

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 13. Iran's steel production increased by 1.6 percent during 2 months of the current Iranian year (from March 20 through May 20, 2024) compared to the same period last year (March 21 through May 21, 2023), the statistics of Iran's Steel Producers Association said, Trend reports.

According to the statistics, Iran produced about 6.42 million tons of crude steel during 2 months. However, during the same period last year, the country's crude steel production was about 6.32 million tons.

The statistic indicates that Iran produced 4.04 million tons of steel products during 2 months. This is 2.6 percent more than the same period last year. However, 3.94 million tons of steel products were produced in the same period last year.

Furthermore, the information notes that the country produced 7.66 million tons of sponge iron in 2 months. This is 14 percent more than in the same period last year. Thus, 6.72 million tons of sponge iron was produced in the same period last year.

The information says that the country produced 12.5 million tons of iron ore pellets during 2 months. Iron ore pellet production increased 6.8 percent year-on-year. In the same period last year, the production of iron ore pellets amounted to 11.7 million tons.

Moreover, Iran produced 32.1 million tons of crude steel during the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2023 through March 19, 2024). Iran's steel production increased by 5.5 percent compared to the previous year (from March 21, 2022 through March 20, 2023). However, last year's crude steel production was 30.4 million tons.

To note, Iran's steel production potential is about 40 million tons per year. Iran plans to increase its steel production capacity to 55 million tons by 2025.
