BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 17. The signing of a document between the two countries on the transportation of Russian gas to Iran is one of the greatest successes of Iranian energy diplomacy, Iranian Oil Minister Javad Owji told reporters on July 17 following a Cabinet meeting in Tehran, Trend reports.
According to Owji, several documents have been signed between Iran's National Gas Company and Russia's Gazprom over the past month. Under these documents, a part of Russian gas will be transported to Iran. Certain parts of the transported gas will be consumed inside the country, and the rest will be exported to neighboring countries. This will ensure the energy security of neighboring countries.
Owji stated that the document signed between Russia and Iran in the field of gas transportation can lead to economic revival in the region and guarantee the energy security of neighboring countries via Iran.
The Iranian minister added that the fuel for thermal power plants in the country is constantly supplied, and there are no problems in this field. Thus, 265 million liters of liquid fuel are distributed daily in the country, the annual cost of which is about $67 billion.
To note, on June 26, the executive director of Iran's National Gas Company, Majid Chegeni, and the executive director of Russia's Gazprom, Alexei Miller, signed a document on the transportation of Russian gas to Iran.
Iran is considered the 2nd largest country in the world, with gas reserves of about 34 trillion cubic meters. A total of 22 gas fields are operating in Iran.
