New power plants to be commissioned in Iran - energy minister

BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 18. Some two new power plants with a production capacity of 640 megawatts will be put into operation in Iran from July 21 through August 21, Iranian Energy Minister Ali Akbar Mehrabian said, Trend reports.

According to him, more than 10,000 megawatts will be added to the country's power generation potential during the current government in Iran (the current government in Iran has been in power since August 2021).

Mehrabian noted that 9,364 megawatts of electricity have been added to the country's electricity production potential under the current government.

The Iranian minister pointed out that power plants with a production capacity of 8,300 megawatts are currently under construction in the country. These power plants are expected to be put into operation by August 2025.

To note, Iran's electricity production potential is 93,024 megawatts. The production potential of Iran's thermal power plants is 75,767 megawatts; the production potential of hydroelectric power plants - 12,144 megawatts; the production potential of retail power plants - 2,485 megawatts; the production potential of renewable power plants - 1,141 megawatts; and the production potential of Bushehr Nuclear Power Station - 1,020 megawatts; and the diesel production potential of the blocks - 408 megawatts.
