BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 1. Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi's helicopter crashed on May 19 in the province of East Azerbaijan in Northern Iran, colliding with a hill due to dense fog, the statement of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran said, Trend reports.
“The major cause of the helicopter crash was the difficult climatic conditions of the region in spring, the sudden formation of a dense mass of fog while ascending to a high altitude, and the collision of the helicopter with a mountain,” the final statement of the department reads.
To note, the helicopter flying from Khudaferin to Tabriz with Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, representative of Iran's Supreme Leader in Tabriz Muhammad Ali Hashim, and Governor of East Azerbaijan Province Malik Rehmati crashed on May 19. The Iranian President and the entire delegation accompanying him died.
