BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 12. Iran can get nuclear weapons in a short time—within six months, the Iranian parliament member Mohammad Mannan Raisi told local media, Trend reports.

According to him, Iran has made many achievements in its nuclear program over the past year. Therefore, obtaining nuclear weapons does not seem so difficult at the moment.

Referring to the appeal of a group of Iranian parliamentary deputies to the Supreme National Security Council to revise Iran's military doctrine, the Iranian parliamentarian noted that if Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei deems it appropriate and the Supreme National Security Council confirms the country's acquisition of atomic weapons, Iran may seek to rapidly acquire atomic weapons.

Mannan Raisi noted that if Iran wants to move towards acquiring nuclear weapons, it should withdraw from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT). Because some countries are also ignoring this agreement.

A total of 39 members of the Iranian parliament have asked Iran's Supreme National Security Council to review the country's defense doctrine regarding nuclear weapons production.

Tensions have risen recently in the Middle East, mainly between Iran and Israel. Some circles in Iran are considering various options given these tensions.

Meanwhile, in January 2016, Iran and the P5+1 group (the US, Russia, China, the UK, France, and Germany) implemented the Comprehensive Joint Plan of Action concerning Iran’s nuclear program.

In May 2018, the US announced its withdrawal from the deal and reimposed sanctions on Iran.

By the end of 2020, the Iranian parliament decided to pursue a strategic plan in the nuclear sector to counter the sanctions, leading to a suspension of additional steps and the Additional Protocol as per the nuclear agreement.

Consequently, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) faced a reduction in monitoring capabilities by 20–30 percent.
