BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 18. Caspian littoral countries can play an effective role in enhancing international energy security by collaborating within the frameworks of the North-South and East-West International Transport Corridors, said Seyed Ali Mohammad Mousavi, Deputy Minister of International Affairs and Trade of Iran’s Ministry of Oil, Trend reports.

In his speech at the 3rd Caspian Economic Forum of Littoral States in Tehran, Mousavi emphasized that this crucial issue should be closely monitored, especially in the areas of oil, gas, and the integration of electricity networks.

According to him, the Caspian countries are of significant importance in the global energy strategy, possessing invaluable oil and gas reserves. He mentioned that these nations could further develop their cooperation in the oil and gas sectors, considering their individual strengths. For example, Russia plays a major role in technology and investment in the oil and gas sector, Turkmenistan has an important role in gas export and supply, Kazakhstan is known for its oil industry and advanced technologies, and Azerbaijan is focusing on the development of both oil and gas sectors.

“It is clear that each country has its own unique technical and specialized potential in the oil and gas sector. By sharing these potentials among Caspian states, we can achieve regional development,” Mousavi added.

The Deputy Minister also suggested that the five Caspian countries could advance together through joint research, benefiting from each other's resources and potential. In this regard, Iran has proposed the creation of a center for knowledge and technology exchange involving experts and specialists to facilitate cooperation. The Iranian Ministry of Oil is ready to organize a Caspian oil and gas technology and knowledge development secretariat if agreed upon by the states.

To note, the Caspian Sea Countries Economic Forum is being held in Tehran on February 17-18, with the participation of Azerbaijan, Russia, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, and Iran.
