Iran Materials 3 August 2006 12:14 (UTC +04:00)

(zaman.com) - All opposition Republican People Party (CHP) members of the Turkish-Israel Parliamentary Friendship Group have resigned from the group to protest the Israeli attacks on Lebanon.

CHP Parliamentary Group Chairman Haluk Koc confirmed that all CHP members had resigned from the friendship group, criticizing Israel for implementing a policy of state terror in the region, reports Trend.

"It is meaningless to talk about friendship. Our party decided to withdraw its members from the Turkish-Israel Friendship Group," Koc told a press conference at the parliament on Wednesday.

Koc said that Israel had massacred innocent civilians. "This is unacceptable. The CHP's stance is clear. Even the UN failed to condemn the massacres. There is a double standard at a global level."

A total of 39 Turkish parliamentarians including all CHP, along with some ruling AKP and opposition ANAVATAN, deputies have resigned from the friendship group.
