Diplomatic sources have announced the U.S. Administration has agreed upon the Turkish Foreign Ministrys appeal on a meeting with Prime Minister Erdogan and U.S. President George W. Bush.
Trend special correspondent in Ankara reported the Turkish PMs visit to Washington would take place around 5-6 October. However, this visit coincides with the official visit of German Prime Minister Angela Merkel to Ankara. Erdogans meeting with the German MP is of great importance in that it will precede the new stage of talks on Turkeys entry into the European Union.
Later this year the EU is planning to consider Turkeys integration into the Union and to adopt some important documents for Ankara. In this respect Ankara is in need of Germanys support.
However, Erdogans forthcoming meeting with Bush is just as important. The talks will represent significant developments in the region nearby Turkey. In this respect the Turkish diplomats deem the forthcoming meeting to be of top priority.
Taking into consideration that arrangements for a new appointment with President George W. Bush would be difficult due to the Presidents busy schedule, the Turkish diplomats are looking into revising the dates of the German Prime Minister Merkels official visit to Ankara.
