Presidential election in Tajikistan due to take place November 6

(Kazakhstan today) - The presidential election in Tajikistan is due to take place on 6 November, 2006. A corresponding decision has been adopted at a joint meeting of both Tajik Parliament Houses - the majlisi namoyandagon and the madjlisi milli majlisi oli, Kazakhstan Today correspondent reports.

"The day of the forthcoming election must become a great day for any citizens of Tajikistan," - Mahmadsaid Ubaidulloyev, Chairman of the madjlisi milli majlisi oli, said. According to him the majority of the republic's citizens have already chosen their candidates, reports Trend.

The first presidential election in Tajikistan took place in autumn 1990, then Kahor Mahkamov was elected head of state, but later he resigned. Rahmon Nabiyev became the second President of Tajikistan. Emomali Rakhmonov was elected President of Tajikistan in 1994.
