(IRNA) - Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Larijani arrived here Thursday morning to discuss the Iran nuclear issue with senior Spanish officials, reports Trend.
During his one-day visit, Larijani is expected to meet Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero and Foreign Minister Miguel Angel Moratinos.
Larijani's visit to Madrid coincides with a visit by UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, who is also due to meet Zapatero and Moratinos on Thursday for talks on Iran's nuclear case as well as the UN peacekeeping mission in Lebanon, but the two are not expected to meet.
Larijani's arrival in the Spanish capital comes a day after a scheduled meeting with European Union foreign policy chief Javier Solana in Vienna Wednesday to discuss the nuclear standoff was cancelled. The two are still to meet but a new date has not been set.
Larijani's visit to Madrid is his second to Spain in the past two months.
