OECD Congratulates Turkey's Progress

(ZAMAN) - Jose Angel Gurria, secretary-general of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), said among the OECD members, Turkey's economy had performed the best in the past few years after its economic crises.

Gurria met Turkish Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul at the prime minister's office in Ankara. Gul and Gurria held a joint press conference following their meeting, reports Trend.

Gurria unveiled the OECD Economic Report on Turkey and stated that the country had made great progress during the past few years, swiftly coming out of an economic recession.

Foreign Minister Gul, for his part, said that Turkey supported the expansion of the OECD. Gul also added that it was important to have new members in OECD, such as Russia, Brazil, India and China.

The OECD secretary-general also visited with Turkish Finance Minister Kemal Unakitan in his office later in the day.
