Iran-Turkmenistan trade volume tops USD 1.4b: ambassador to Turkmenistan

(IRNA) - Acting Iranian Ambassador to Turkmenistan Mehdi Sobhani here Wednesday evening said the volume of trade between Iran and Turkmenistan has exceeded USD 1.4 billion.

He made the disclosure during a farewell ceremony for former Iranian ambassador to Ashkhabad Gholam-Reza Ansari, reports Trend.

Some 40,000 Iranian trucks travel each year to Turkmenistan to deliver Iranian products to that country, Sobhani said.

He expressed his satisfaction with the current level of Tehran-Ashkhabad economic and political ties.

The outgoing Iranian ambassador, who also spoke at the ceremony, said Iran attaches great importance to its ties with Central Asian states, including Turkmenistan, and efforts to develop the regional market.

He expressed optimism Iran-Turkmenistan trade exchanges will reach USD 5 billion in the near future.
