(IRNA) - The Iranian government's approach is based on expanding ties with African states, an Iranian diplomat said on Wednesday.
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's special envoy and Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Mohammad-Reza Baqeri made the remark in a meeting with Ghana's Foreign Minister Nana kufo-Addo in Accra, reports Trend.
During the meeting, the two sides explored avenues for bolstering of bilateral cooperation at international organizations as well as issues of mutual interests and regional developments.
Baqeri stressed the importance of exchanging delegations and holding joint commission meetings between Iran and Ghana to explore ground for promotion of bilateral cooperation in all fields particularly in economic and trade areas.
Baqeri expounded on latest developments in Iran's peaceful nuclear program and measures taken by the country to build confidence.
"Iran has carried out all its nuclear activities based on the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and all international regulations.
"The International Atomic Energy Agency's (IAEA) chief Mohamed ElBaradei, in a recent report, explicitly stated that Iran's nuclear activities have not been diverted to non-peaceful purposes," he said.
The Iranian official expressed hope Ghana would support progress of developing states with respect to its historical background.
Akufo-Addo, for his part, underlined the significance of bolstering relations with Iran and said he would pay a visit to Iran in the near future.
He said Ghana has always backed Iran in international fora, adding that his country would do its utmost to establish peace and security in all parts of the world.
Meanwhile, Baqeri held a meeting with Ghana's Deputy Foreign Minister Akwasi Osei-Adjei on Wednesday and discussed bilateral and international cooperation.
