Iran's natural gas transfer capacity will be increased by 70 million cubic meters per day by the end of autumn, Iran's Shana news agency reported on November 12.
Currently, the country's natural gas transfer capacity is about 700MCMD.
The capacity is projected to increase to one billion cubic meters per day once the South Pars gas field phases come on stream.
Hassan Montazer Torbati, National Iranian Gas Company's director for planning affairs, said in May that Iran's gas output is expected to rise by 100 million cubic meters by winter.
NIGC is ready in time to transfer the additional amount of gas through the country's national gas pipeline, Iran's Tasnim News Agency reported on May 21.
"NIGC's main priority is to increase Iran's gas production capacity. South Pars gas field's output is expected to rise by 70-100 million cubic meters per day this year (to end on March 20, 2015). So, NIGC has focused on transferring the mentioned amount of gas to other parts of the country," he said.
Torbati went on to note that Iran will complete the 4th, 8th, and 10th cross-country gas pipelines this year (to end on March 20, 2015). The construction operation of the 6th cross-country gas pipeline will also be started this year.
South Pars is part of a wider gas field that is shared with Qatar. The larger field covers an area of 9,700 square kilometers, 3,700 square kilometers of which are in Iran's territorial waters (South Pars) in the Persian Gulf. The remaining 6,000 square kilometers, referred to as the North Dome, are in Qatar's territorial waters.
The Iranian gas field contains 14 trillion cubic meters of natural gas, about eight percent of the world's reserves, and more than 18 billion barrels of LNG resources.
