Iran-Turkmenistan-Kazakhstan railway can facilitate energy transfer

The Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran railway can prepare easier situation for transferring energy and oil products swap in the region, the Islamic Republic president Hassan Rouhani said.

Rouhani's remarks that made during the inauguration ceremony of Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran railway were aired by the Iranian state-run TV channel IRINN Dec.3.

He said that the railway can connect the members of Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) to Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) countries.

"Alongside the railway new roads should be constructed and new maritime routes should be established between Caspian Sea littoral states," Rouhani said.

He added that goods transfer among the regional countries should cost less and be more economical.

He also said that the Islamic republic is ready to increase the railway's capacity through cooperation with Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan.

The railway project gives easier access for Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan to the Gulf, Sea of Oman, China, Turkey, Europe and the Mediterraneans, Rouhani added.

He underlined that all regional countries will benefit from the Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran railway with development, security and stability of regional countries linked to each other.

The Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran railway was inaugurated during a ceremony which took place on the Turkmen-Iranian border with the participation of Nursultan Nazarbayev of Kazakhstan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov of Turkmenistan and Hassan Rouhani of Iran .

Agreement on the construction of the railway was signed in 2007, while construction work began in 2009.

Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran railway is part of the North-South international transport corridor. A project, called the North-South, is being implemented on the basis of an agreement signed in 2007 by Turkmenistan, Iran and Kazakhstan .

The railway length is 925 kilometers in total, with 85 kilometers on Iran 's territory, 700 on Turkmenistan 's territory and the remaining 140 on Kazakhstan 's territory.
