Iranian private sector to modernize power plants with 6300MW output

By Fatih Karimov - Trend: The Iranian private sector will turn power plants with 6300 megawatts of output in the country to combined cycle plants.

Homayoun Haeri, Managing Director of Iran Power Generation, Transmission, and Distribution Management Company (TAVANIR), said that Iran's total electricity generation currently stands at 73,000 megawatts, 50 percent of which is owned by the private sector, Iran 's ISNA news agency reported on Feb. 17.

He also said that three nuclear power plants, each with 1000 megawatts of output, would be built in the country.

Yusef Armodeli, managing director of the Renewable Energy Organization of Iran said in October that Iran is planning to produce 5,000 megawatts of electricity in the next five years using renewable energy sources.

The organization has comprehensive plans underway with respect to utilization of clean methods of energy supply, he added.
