Iran has achieved the technology for manufacturing gas turbine, known as IGT25, Saeed Mohtadi, managing director of Iran's Oil Turbo Compressor Company said.
Now the Islamic Republic is among the five countries which manufacture the turbine, Mohtadi said, the oil ministry's official SHANA news agency reported March 14.
The home-made turbine will be unveiled in one of the country's gas compressor stations in the coming weeks.
The turbine will have the power capacity of 25 megawatts, Mohtadi said, adding its power can be increased to 30 megawatts.
Iran's national gas network is 33,124 kilometers long, and will be expanded to 61,457 kilometers by 2025.
The country's annual gas transfer capacity is projected to reach 200 billion cubic meters by the end of the current Iranian fiscal year (March 20).
Last September Mohammad Ali Emam, the managing director of the National Iranian Gas Transfer Company said that the Islamic Republic will double its natural gas transfer capacity to 400 billion cubic meters per year by 2025.
Iran holds the world's largest proven natural gas reserves, at 33.8 trillion cubic meters - or 18.2 percent of the world's total proven reserves.
