Iran’s aluminum ingot output increases by 5%

Some 93,836 metric tons of aluminum ingots were produced in Iran during the first three months of the current Iranian fiscal year (March 21-June 22.

The figure shows five-percent growth compared to the same period of preceding year, Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization (IMIDRO) reported July 17.

Iranian Aluminum Company (IRALCO, produced 46,230 metric tons of aluminum ingots in the 3-month period, while the volume of aluminum ingot production in the Al-Mahdi Aluminum Corporation (AAC) and Hormozal companies stood at 21,100 and 26,506 metric tons respectively.

Iran produced 62,601 metric tons of alumina powder in the period as well.

Some 29,404 metric tons of aluminum ingots and 21,454 metric tons of alumina powder have also been produced in the third Iranian calendar month (May 21-June 22.

It was previously announced that Iran plans to increase its annual aluminum ingot production capacity up to 910,000 ‎tons by the end of the Fifth Five-Year Economic ‎Development Plan (March 2016).

According to Iranian officials, the country's current per capita consumption of aluminum stands at 4.5 kilogram, while per capita aluminum consumption worldwide now stands at 6.5 ‎kilograms.

Iran's ranking in production of aluminum has increased ‎by four steps since 2005 to stand as number 22 in the world aluminum ‎output.

Officials say Iran plans to rank 14th in global aluminum ‎production by the end of the 5th Economic Development Plan (2010-2015).
