Following the recent incidents in Turkey, Iran has decided to replace the Turkey route to the EU with other alternatives including Azerbaijan.
The Islamic Republic's Transport Coordinating Council in its latest meeting, which was headed by the country's minister of road and urban development, Abbas Akhoundi, discussed the recent incidents in Turkey as well as problems of Iranian drivers in the neighboring country, the official IRNA news agency reported August 26.
The southeastern parts of Turkey have been in restive situations in recent months.
In the meantime, a number of Iranian buses have been stopped on their way to Turkey . In one incident the driver was killed by unknown men. Also, the railroads connecting Iran to Turkey have been mined inside Turkish territory a couple of times in the past month.
Iranian Road Maintenance and Transportation organization is tasked with announcing alternative routes to Europe through some other countries including Azerbaijan as soon as possible, according to the report.
Turkey also has closed two border crossings with Iran 's Razi and Sero border checkpoints. However, the border crossing of Bazargan is still open round the clock.
Iranian officials say the measure was taken on security grounds.
Meanwhile Mohammad Javad Atrchian, an official with the Iranian Road Maintenance and Transportation Organization has said that the closure will create no problem for trucks and buses.
Turkey has not set a time limit for the closure, he noted.
