The consumption of gasoline in Iran since the beginning of the current Iranian fiscal year (March 21) has shown a three percent rise compared to the previous year's same period, CEO of the National Iranian Oil Products Distribution Company (NIOPDC) Nasser Sajjadi said.

He also said that the consumption of gas oil has dropped by 17 percent during the same period, IRNA news agency reported August 31.

During the past 160 days, Iranians burnt 72 million liters of gasoline per day, he pointed out. Sajjadi said statistic estimations had envisioned a 5-percent rise in gasoline consumption.

Last year the average daily gasoline consumption in Iran stood at 70 million.

According to Sajjadi, kerosene and mazut consumptions plunged by 16 and 29 percent during the mentioned period.

Thus, 4.5 billion liters of fuel has been saved so far, he concluded.

The reductions come on account of projects underway by the Oil Ministry to replace gas for liquid fuel.

During the past 160 days, 119.4 million liters of liquid fuels (gas oil, kerosene, liquefied gas, and mazut) were burnt. The number had been 147 million liters for the same period of the previous year.
