Iran’s car imports continue to fall

Iran has imported 20,886 sedan cars, worth $497 million during the first half of the current Iranian fiscal year (March 21- Sept. 22), the latest report by Iran 's Customs Administration said.

Iran's sedan imports registered a fall by 57 percent in terms of amount and 48.9 percent in terms of value during the period year on year.

The Islamic Republic imported 3030 sedan cars in the calendar month of Shahrivar (Aug. 22-Sept. 22), worth $74.8 million.

The figures indicate fall by 70 and 61.6 percent in terms of volume and value respectively compared to the same month of preceding year.

It should be noted that Iran has banned importing cars with engines up to a 2500CC capacity.

Iran's sedan car imports stood at 102,000, worth $2.128 billion during last fiscal year (ended on March 21), 31 and 30 percent more in terms of amount and value respectively year on year.

In the first five months of the current Iranian fiscal year, 405,689 sedan cars were manufactured in Iran , a 17.5 percent rise year on year.

Some 1.13 million cars have also been produced in the country in the past fiscal year. Latest data shows that Iran ranks 18th on the list of the world's top auto manufacturers.

The 2014 production statistics by the International Organization of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers (OICA) indicate Iran 's auto production increased by 46.7 percent in the 12-month period.
