Baku, Azerbaijan, Dec. 7

By Fatih Karimov - Trend:

Daily gas consumption by various sectors in Iran amounted for 645 million cubic meters in the 24 hours of Dec. 6, Majid Boujarzadeh, spokesman of the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) said.

Gas consumption has witnessed an increase by 100 million cubic meters in daily basis in recent days due to cold season, Boujarzadeh said, the oil ministry's official SHANA news agency reported Dec. 7.

The amount of gas consumed by domestic, trade and small industrial units in the mentioned day hit 456 million cubic meters, he said, adding during the 24 hours of Dec. 6, over 97 million cubic meters of gas was delivered to power plants across the country.

The NIGC also supplied 98 million cubic meters of gas to Iran's major industrial units in the period, the official said.

Iran's average daily gas consumption in the current fiscal year (started on March 21) amounted to 456 million cubic meters, whereas the number was 431 million cubic meters for the last fiscal year, he said.

Over 46.8 billion cubic meters of gas was delivered to the power plants this fiscal year (March 21-Dec. 6), Boujarzadeh said, adding the figure indicates an increase by seven billion cubic meters compared to the same period preceding year.

As the owner of the biggest gas reserves in the world, Iran has started to replace gas as a cheap, easy to acquire fuel for many other kinds of fuel.

Most of the country's gas output is consumed domestically, while most of liquid fuels that used to be consumed at industrial units and power plants are now available for export.

According to an August report, during the first 160 days of the current Iranian fiscal year (which started on March 21), 119.4 million liters of liquid fuels (gas oil, kerosene, liquefied gas, and mazut) were burnt, showing a big decline from 147 million liters registered for the same period of the previous year.
