Reviewing the country's draft budget for the current fiscal year (started 20 March), Iranian parliamentarians have decided to increase taxes on cigarettes import and production.

This will result in the retail prices rise as well. Under the bill retail price for per cigarette will increase by 500 rials (according to official rate on April 19 one dollar makes 30,293 rials), ISNA news agency reported.

The price for those cigarettes produced jointly between Iranian and foreign companies will increase by 350 rials.

In the meantime, the price for home-made cigarettes will increase by 100 rials, the report said.

On April 10 the parliament approved general outlines of the national budget bill for the current Iranian calendar year and since then lawmakers have been discussing the details of the draft budget.

The budget plan has put the price of one US dollar at 29,970 rials.

Meanwhile, the draft budget is set based on revenues from the sales of 2.25 million barrels of oil per day. The draft budget has predicted to sell a barrel of oil at $40.
