German-Spanish company to build solar power plant in Iran

A German-Spanish company is keen to cooperate with Iran’s West Regional Electric Company in developing a 50 megawatts (MW) solar power plant in western Iran.

Alireza Sheikhi, an official with West Regional Electric Company has said that the German-Spanish company is also eager to invest in new projects for developing the region’s power capability, IRNA news agency reported.

The name of the German-Spanish company has not been revealed.

Iran’s power generation capacity currently stands at around 74,000 MW, of that some 12,000 MW is generated via hydroelectric power plants, 1000 MW via nuclear power plant and the remaining is produced by thermal power plants.

Iran’s capacity for producing renewable energy stands at 232 megawatts, 0.31 percent of the country’s total power generation capacity.

West Regional Electric Company produces and transmits power in west part of Iran with the extent of 71723 square kilometers.
