Iran’s private steel producers exported 2.565 million tons of steel to global markets in the first nine months of the current fiscal year (March 20-Dec. 21, 2016).
The figure indicates a 118-percent increase in comparison with the same period of the preceding year, Iranian Industry, Mines and Trade Ministry’s official SHATA news portal reported Jan. 11.
The exported steel includes 1.698 million tons of billet and bloom as well as 867,000 tons of slab.
Iran’s private steel sector also exported 1.519 million tons of its steel products in the 9-month period, 4 percent less year-on-year.
The exported steel products include cold rolled steel (131,000 tons, a 134-percent increase), galvanized steel (23,000 tons, a 10-percent increase), hot rolled steel (978,000 tons, an 11-percent fall), round bars (200,000 tons, an 18-percent fall) and beams (159,000 tons, a 7-percent increase).
The Islamic Republic’s steel output throughout 2015 is estimated to have hit 16.11 million tons. Iran also produced 16.331 million tons of crude steel in 2014.
The country’s crude steel production reached 15.421 million tons in 2013, which was 6.6 percent more than in the preceding year.
Iran’s output of crude steel would reach 55 million tons by 2025.
