Iran has decreased power loss in transmission & distribution network from 15.5 percent in 2013 to about 10.9 percent currently, Energy Minister Hamid Chitchian said during an interview with state-run IRIB TV.
He said that currently the generation capacity of Iran’s power plants stands at 76 gigawatts (GW), of which 16 percent accounts for renewables and hydropower.
Chitchian added that Iran plans to decrease power loss to 10 percent by the end of current fiscal year (started March 21, 2016).
According to the latest weekly report released by Energy Ministry, Iran’s nominal power generation capacity reached 76.111 GW as of Feb. 5, but the actual power generation is less than this volume.

Chitcian said that only 3 companies were producing power from renewables in 2013, but currently 25 companies generate renewable power and sell to the Energy Ministry.
Currently, Iran’s total renewable electricity generation capacity stands at 240 MW, sharing about 0.32 percent of total nominal power generation capacity.
Iran plans to generate 7.5 GW renewable power by 2025, when the country’s total power output stands at above 120 GW.
The latest statistics of Iran’s Energy Ministry indicate that the country used 53.447 bcm of gas in power plants during 320 days of current fiscal year, which means supply of 167 mcm/d in average.
The gas deliveries to power plants increased by 6.8 percent in 320 days of current fiscal year.
The country consumed 4.617 billion liters of gas oil (a 12.2-percent decrease Y/Y) and 3.478 billion liters of fuel oil (a 43.4-percent decrease Y/Y) in power sector as well.
