The value of Iran’s cement production has dropped by 32 percent over the last fiscal year (March 20, 2015-March 20, 2016), an official said.

Morteza Lotfi, the deputy head of Iran's Cement Industry Employers Association, has said the country exported 12.767 million tons of cement valued at $496 million over the last year, Eghtesadonline news
website reported.

According to the official, the last year’s cement exports shrank by 32 percent in value and 2 percent in volume.

Three years ago (Iranian year corresponding to 2014/15), the country with

18 million tons of cement exports was among the main exporters of the commodity in the world, he added.

He further touched upon the domestic consumption of cement and said the cement factories currently work at half capacity due to low demand.

Lotfi mentioned that the current domestic demand for the commodity is less than 50 million tons.

According to the country's Industry, Mines, and Trade Ministry, Iran produced over 49.58 million tons of cement in the first 11 months of the last Iranian fiscal year, indicating a fall by 6.4 percent compared to the
same period of preceding year.
