Iran has drilled 54 oil and gas wells during four months of the current fiscal year (March 21-July 21), Hamid Reza Khoshayand, deputy managing director of National Iranian Drilling Company (NIDC) said July 26.

He added that the wells include 22 delineation wells, one exploratory and 31 repairing ones, the company’s official website reported.

The NIDC owns 74 light, heavy and ultra-heavy onshore and offshore drilling rigs, of which 15 percent are located on the joint fields with neighbours, he added.

Iran has prioritized development of several giant oil fields, located in West Karoon Block, joint with Iraq.

Iran has increased oil production capacity from this block to 300,000 barrels per day, but it is preparing to double that in next year and increase the volume to 1.04 mb/d by 2021.

West Kroob Block with 64 billion barrels oil in-situ reserves includes Azar, Yadavaran, Azadegan, Yaran and some other fields.
