Iran's machine-woven carpets could hit global markets

The producers of machine woven carpets in Iran plan to export their products through joining international exhibitions and drawing government’s support, an industry official told Trend.

Speaking about the industry’s capacity to compete in the international market, the head of the union for the producers of machine woven carpets of Iran, Mohammadhadi Kamalian, has said that the producers of machine woven carpets should participate in international fairs in order to exhibit their products.

Saying that Iran annually produces 170 million square meters of machine woven carpets, he touched upon obstacles to the exports of machine woven carpets and added that about 90 million square meters of the output goes to domestic consumption.

According to the official, the country currently exports about 60 million square meters of the machine woven carpets per year.

Kamalian further urged the government to extend financial aid to the sector in order to help the industry and create further job opportunities.
