Iraq is the first destination for Iran’s fruits and vegetable exports, Mahmoud Bazari, the director general of the exports coordination office of Iran’s Trade Promotion Organization (TPO) for agro crops and processing industries' products, said.
Bazari said that Iran exported 3.02 million tons of fruits and vegetables, worth $1.121 million to global markets last fiscal year (ended March 2018), the press office of the TPO said.
The value of exported fruits and vegetables was equal to 2.1 percent of Iran’s overall non-oil exports, the official said.
He added that the figure indicates a rise by 31.6 percent compared to the preceding year, when the Islamic Republic exported $852 million worth of agro products.
Iraq was the top destination of the products with an overall share of 47.6 percent from Iran’s fruits and vegetables exports, Bazari said.
He named the UAE, Afghanistan, Russia and Qatar as other main target markets of Iran’s agro exports.
Agricultural and food products accounted for 13 percent of Iran’s total non-oil exports during the last fiscal year. The country exported 6.130 million tons of agricultural and food products, 5 percent more year-on-year.
The value of the exports reached $5.93 billion, 4 percent more compared to the preceding year.
