Price of machine-made carpets in Iran increased by 10-15 percent, which led to worsening of situation in the market, Chairman of the Iranian Carpet Association Mohammad Hadi Kamalian told Trend on May 16.

“The recent increase in prices has exacerbated the current recession. But in general, I am optimistic about the market of the machine-made carpets. Export of the machine-made carpets is in progress. However, USD rate and high export costs for are among the problems now,” Kamalian said.

According to him, Iran produces 160-170 million square meters of carpets per year, with about 80-90 million square meters being sold in the domestic market. There is no accurate data available on the export of machine-made carpets, but Kamalian estimated the annual export to reach 60-70 million square meters.
