Steel output in Iran witnessed an increase by 13.2 percent in July 2018, according to the latest data released by the World Steel Association.
Iranian crude steel production stood at 1.98 million tons in July, registering a 6 percent fall compared to the preceding month.
Iran’s crude steel output amounted to 14.46 million tons in January-July 2018, 23.6 percent more compared to the first seven months of 2017.
Iran maintained the world’s 11th biggest producer position in January-July 2018, while it ranked second in the region after Turkey with 22.16 million tons of output (2.8 percent more year-on-year).
The country’s total steel output reached 21.726 million tons in 2017, 21.4 percent more year-on-year.
The Islamic Republic’s steel output in 2016 hit 17.895 million tons. The country’s steel output in 2015 stood at 16.11 million tons. Iran produced 16.331 million tons of crude steel in 2014.
According to the World Steel Association, 1,038 million tons of steel was produced by 64 countries in 2018, 5 percent more year-on-year.
The 64 countries included in the report accounted for approximately 99 percent of total world crude steel production.
China was the biggest crude steel producer in the world in January-July 2018 with about 532.85 million tons of production, followed by India (61.8 million tons), Japan (61.4 million tons), the US (49.3 million tons), South Korea (42.2 million tons), Russia (42.1 million tons), Germany (26.4 million tons), Turkey (22.2 million tons) and Brazil (20.2 million tons).
