Azerbaijan - 4th most visited spot for Iranian tourists

Some 349,000 tourists from Iran visited Azerbaijan in the last fiscal year, ended March 20, according to the latest statistics of the Islamic Republic’s Culture, Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization.

Azerbaijan was the fourth destination of Iranian tourists after Iraq, Turkey and the UAE.

The number of Iranian tourists who visited Azerbaijan registered a rise by 15.7 percent, year-on-year.

The organization said that 10.54 million Iranian tourists travelled to other countries in March 2017- 2018, which is 14.85 percent more compared to the preceding year.

Some 4.4 million and 2.77 million Iranians visited Iraq and Turkey in the period, 5.4 and 54.3 percent more year-on-year, respectively.

The ranking is as follows: The UAE (869,859, 15.3 percent less), Azerbaijan (349,000, 15.7 percent more), Germany (218,301, 8 percent increase), Georgia (213,308, 141.6 percent increase), Armenia (193,174, 0.5 percent growth), Qatar (163,763, 5.7 percent increase), Afghanistan (115,325, 2.7 percent increase) and China (106,771, 12.7 percent growth).

In the meantime 959,653 Azerbaijani tourists visited the Islamic Republic, 2.2 percent less compared to the preceding year.

Azerbaijanis were the second top nation, who visited Iran in the last fiscal year and accounted for 21 percent of the overall foreign tourists who arrived in the country in the period.

Some 5.11 million tourists visited Iran over the last fiscal year, ended March 20, 4.3 percent more year-on-year.

The top five nations are Iraq (1.356 million tourists, 3 percent fall), Azerbaijan (959,653 tourists, 2.2 percent fall), Afghanistan (860,000 tourists, 26 percent increase), Turkey (573,850 tourists, 29 percent increase) and Pakistan (273,200 tourists, 13 percent increase).

The ranking is as follows: Turkmenistan, Bahrain, Kuwait, India, China and Germany.
