The price of cement package in Iran has increased by 117 percent, which causes a major blow on producers, said member of Iranian Cement Industry Employers Association Mohammad Ali Bod.

“Some plants will have to stop operating if the country doesn’t take necessary steps to resolve this problem,” he told Tasnim news agency.

He noted that the price of 50 kilograms of cement package was 8,500 rials (around $2) in late 2017, while currently, its price has reached 18,500 rials (about $4.40).

The rise of the cement price by 10,000 rials caused a major blow on producers, said the report.

“The production cost in the cement production sector is very high. Some cement plants will be shut down if the country doesn’t take the necessary measures,” said the message.

“Currently, there is additional production in this sector. Producers should sell their products in order to continue their operation. But high production costs put obstacles to their operation,” he added.
