Iran continues talks with foreign port operators for investments in container terminals

Iran is holding talks with well-known foreign port operators for attracting foreign investment to container terminals in its ports, as well as handing over the operation of the terminals to the companies, said Mohammad Rastad, Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development and Managing Director of Ports and Maritime Organization, Trend reports referring to ILNA.

He said that consultations are being held with foreign operators on this matter.

According to Rastad, increasing investments in the field of information and communication technologies, as well as increasing revenue and creating competition in port services are among the goals set out in the current Iranian year (started March 21, 2019).

Rastad added that other important programs include improving the equipment of the 1st phase of the Shahid Beheshti port development project in Chabahar and the development of the 3rd phase of Shahid Rajaee port.

"Improving the oil platform at the Shahid Rajaee port, handing over small ports to the private sector, increasing production and industrial activities in areas close to the ports, increasing the share of rail transport in ports are on the agenda of the Ports and Maritime Organization," he said.
