Russia seeks to cooperate with Iran in areas of artificial intelligence and smart city

"There are many areas of cooperation between Iran and Russia including the areas of artificial intelligence and smart cities," said Russian Deputy Minister of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media, Trend reports citing IRNA.

A delegation of representatives of leading Russian telecommunications and electronic companies led by Deputy Minister of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media of Russia Mikhail Mamonov is scheduled to visit Tehran on June 17.

They will participate in the meeting of Iran-Russia working group on cooperation in the field of information and communication technologies. The joint working group meeting will comprise of two separate sections of ‘Communications and Information Security’ and ‘Electronic Government and Smart Cities’.

"This year, not only bilateral cooperation issues, but also prospects of cooperation between cities of Russia and Iran are on the agenda of the meeting,” the Russian Deputy Minister noted.

“Officials from the Moscow Department of Information Technology and about 30 representatives from the Iranian and Russian companies operating in the field of communications and telecommunications will exchange views and discuss issues of mutual interest. Russian intelligence products have huge export potential, and many countries are interested in their import,” he added.

Speaking about Iranian-Russian cooperation, he said that the bilateral relations are developing successfully in all areas, and particularly, in the economic sphere.

“In 2018, the volume of trade turnover between Iran and Russia reached nearly 1.7 billion dollars, which is $ 33.9 million or 1.99 percent more than in 2017,” he noted. He added that Russia's imports from Iran amounted to $ 533.1 million.

"There are a lot of joint projects underway between the two sides, including cooperation in the field of peaceful nuclear energy, and oil and gas sector,” he continued. He expressed confidence that this trip will provide new impetus to the long-term beneficial cooperation between the two countries.

“An important area of ​​cooperation could be in the field of smart city, which shall improve quality of life of the residents through the use of information technology and provide them with modern services,” he noted.
