Iran will save $66.5 million a year by using domestically produced catalysts in the petrochemical industry, Head Board Member of Iran’s Petrochemical Research and Technology Company (PRTC) Ali Pejuhan told NIPNA, Trend reports.

According to him, the catalysts will be manufactured domestically by the PRTC.

Pejuhan added that the commercialization of three catalysts has been completed and one catalyst is in the process of commercialization. "Overall, these catalysts will be used by 13 petrochemical companies," he said.

Pejuhan said that the use of Ziegler–Natta catalyst for commercial lightweight polyethylene production will save about $30 million a year.

"The Ziegler–Natta catalyst commercialized for heavy-duty polyethylene production will save petrochemical companies $15 million a year," he said.

Pejuhan added that $7.4 million to be saved on the production of commercial peroxides for lightweight polyethylene.

He also said that the Ziegler–Natta catalyst will soon be commercialized for the production of other heavy polyethylenes. The production of this catalyst will save $14 million.

It was noted that some foreign companies do not issue licenses for the production of catalysts in Iran. Therefore, efforts are now being made to produce new generation catalysts in the petrochemical industry with the support of the Iranian Ministry of Petroleum and Iran’s National Petrochemical Company (NPC).
