Output of Iran's petrochemical industry exceeds 65 billion tons

Presently, 56 petrochemical facilities operate in Iran and they produce 66 million tons of various goods every year, Iran's Deputy Petroleum Minister, CEO of National Petrochemical Company Behzad Mohammadi said, Trend reports via IRIB.

Mohammadi noted that a part of the 66 million output is used as fuel in the petrochemical industry.

Meanwhile, 31 million tons of the industry's total output is put up for sale as final product, he added, noting that 22.5 million tons of the final petrochemical products are exported, while 8.5 million tons are sold in domestic markets.

The revenues from the sales of petrochemicals amount to $17 billion in total, Mohammadi said, adding that $12 billion of the revenues account for the exports, while $5 billion fall to the share of the sales in domestic markets.

He noted that the sector employs 108,000 people with permanent jobs and produces 350 types of goods.

According to Mohammadi, the output of Iran's petrochemical industry will increase from 66 million tons to 100 million tons by 2021.

The deputy minister noted that 16 petrochemical projects will be put into operation in 2020, while in 2021 this number is expected to be seven. Upon the implementation of these projects, Iran's revenues fro petrochemical sector will reach $28 billion.
