Use of fuel gas to increase in Iran's petrochemical industry

The use of fuel gas will increase compared to liquefied gas in Iran's petrochemical industry, Iranian Deputy Oil Minister and Executive Director of the National Petrochemical Industry Behzad Mohammadi said.

Mohammadi made the remarks in Iran at the 13th International Exhibition of IranPlast, Trend reports referring to Mehr news agency.

Presently, the use of fuel gas is 77 percent compared to 23 percent accounting for liquefied gas, he said.

Mohammadi added that this figure will reach 86 percent compared to 14 percent in 2025.

Iran's petrochemical enterprises buy eight types of fuel from the Ministry of Petroleum. Some 27 percent account for natural gas and 23 percent - for gas condensate, he said.

Mohammadi said that investments to be made in the petrochemical industry will reach $93 billion by 2025.

He said that the petrochemical industry produces 90 types of products. This number will increase up to 105 types in 2025.

Iran's petrochemical enterprises buy 33 million tons of fuel from oil, gas and LNG plants, that is 650,000 barrels of oil per day, Mohammadi said.

The figure is expected to be 1.4 million barrels per day by 2025, he said.

Mohammadi added that 170,000 people were employed in the downstream sector.
