Trend:

Iran's fish farming production has increased to 1.262 million tons in last Iranian year (started March 21, 2018) showing that the country has exceeded its production plans by 10%, said the deputy agriculture minister.

"Sturgeon fish farming is currently developing in the provinces that previously were not active in the sector," said Nabiollah Khonmirza, Trend reports citing IRNA.

"For example, the conditions in East Azerbaijan Province can easily be used for fishery development, if necessary support is provided," he added.

The official emphasized that farming sturgeon fish across the country has been successful.

"Farming sturgeon fish is one of the best profitable agriculture activities in Iran. The private sector is running almost 100 percent of fish farming, and the same practice shall be applied in East Azerbaijan," he added.

"The country has produced around 2,800 tons of sturgeon fish meet and 590 kilo of caviar in last Iranian year [started March 21,2018]. It is predicted that 3,400 tons of sturgeon fish meet and 800 kilo of caviar are to be produced in the current Iranian year [started March 21,2019]," he said.

"Some $476,190 were invested in Khani sturgeon fish farming plant operating in East Azerbaijan Province, which is expected to produce ten tons of fish and four tons of caviar," he added.
