The chairman added that 2.65 trillion rials (about $63 million) were paid to tea growers, while the remaining funds (720 billion rials - about $17 million) will be gradually paid.

Jahansaz said that the tea will be fully purchased from the tea growers till October 22.

So far, about 28,000 tons of tea have been produced at tea factories in Gilan and Mazandaran provinces, the chairman said.

Jahansaz said that 25,000 hectares account for tea gardens in these two provinces and 60,000 families are engaged in tea growing.

A number of products, including tea, are purchased in Iran by state-owned companies and businesses, he added.

Iran imported 29,600 tons of tea worth $146 million and exported 1,950 tons of tea worth approximately $2 million during four months (from March 21 through July 22), according to the Iranian Customs Administration’s statistics.
